Little Red Stories
"One of my very earliest memories happened in 1931 when I was about 2 1/2 years old. My family was traveling from California back to Rangoon, Burma. We were on a ship in Yokohama Harbor. A family of fellow-travelers with chidren had a red Radio Flyer Wagon. They were very generous and encouraged my brothers and me to use the wagon. I was too small to handle it on my own, but my oldest brother who was 10 years old put me in the front while he sat in the back and guided the wagon. The boat was rocking slowly back and forth in the waves. When the deck slanted one way we would coast without pushing, then as the boat slanted the other way we would turn and glide up the deck again. I am now 86 years old and just recently a friend, to whom I had told this story, sent me a Little Red Wagon as a special gift! All through the years I have wanted my own Red Wagon, but never got one. Now I have one I will enjoy the rest of my life. Gene Bullock-Wilson, Carmel, California"
"I had a large Radio Flyer wagon with the wooden rails when I was 6 years old (1960). We kept it at my aunt and uncle's house in Camden, NJ because we were there a lot because my father was ill and stayed at Cooper Hospital (right around the corner). I used to empty their coal bin into my Radio Flyer wagon and when I would come up from the basement, they would send me right back down to put all the coal back into the bin. Once I did that they would have to give me a bath (because I was as black as the coal) which was my ultimate goal as they had a HUGE 4 foot high claw tub that I loved to swim in with my sister. I share this story all the time because I did this every time we would go to their house. "
"I knew from the time I had a little one on the way, I wanted a wagon for her. While mom was looking at baby furniture, I was gazing at the wagons. I wanted a wagon I knew would last and I got one this summer. I finally got to put her in it. She was smiles from the pumpkin patch to the end of the corn maze. I can’t wait to build more great memories like this one. I also couldn’t be happier knowing she will have a great toy for years to come. "
