Time stood still

My cousin Brenda had polio when she was 3 years old . Dad had bought us 8 kids a radioflyer red wagon we were alwas fighting to see just who got to ride and who had to pull. When Brenda come home from the hospital we didnt argue anymore who would ride we argued who would get the honor of pulling her around the block.It was a pleasure to see her happy face .all the neighbors would come out and talk to us, give us cookies and kool-aid and one lady made her a cushion to put behind her back and one to lay her braces on her legs upon.In my mind i see how that red wagon and Brenda made a neighborhood more friendly with one another.we gave Brenda our much loved radioflyer wagon.

"My story goes back many moons ago. When I was just a little girl of 6 years old. My Sister Helen, 7 years older than me. Often just pulled me around. And taught me how to steer. While pushing the wagon. Later she taught me how to push myself. One leg, on knee, in wagon. And push with the other leg/foot. Oh how fun that was. The wagon seemed so big to me. The wagon was not just for play. It doubled as a work wagon. For one every Sat. Daddy, Sis, my red flyer & me. Went to the market & loaded it with food supplies for the week. I mainly went along for the ride. I've written a poem about it, for my sister several years ago. She is gone now, as are my Daddy & Wagon. But those memories live on.
